Red Petals

Red petals falling down

Her mask unfolding

Finally letting go of all the things

She shouldn’t have been holding

She grew thorns around her heart

Hoping to keep everyone out

But that caused great pain

For something she wasn’t about

As she cries and weeps

She pushes them away

Her red petals falling in heeps

As she breaks all the promises

She swore she could  keep

As her last petal hits the ground

And fall tightens its grip

She finally lays down

She didn’t want to live

But our dear little rose

Still had so much to give
