Red Velvet
The navy blue sky and iridescent opaque moon glows through the cracks of the blinds.
Your arms enclose me as I lay my head on your stubbly chest.
Your warmth protects me like a safety blanket.
I slowly caress your cleanly shaven face,
As I stare into your chocolate eyes.
You are as familiar to me
As a photographer is to the focus of their lens.
You start to laugh,
A distinct chuckle that is not only beautiful, but one that will never escape my mind.
Your voice is a sweet honey suckled trees in a mass of burned down stumps.
Your voice is music to my ears.
Every breath you take energizes me
Like lightning running through my veins.
Why is it that when you smile
My day lights up.
When you speak,
My lungs feel consumed.
When your heart beats,
My chest pounds.
You burn the fire inside of me,
you are the light at the end of a dark tunnel.
Meeting you was like winning a marathon with my eyes closed.
Thank you for caring for me,
for pushing me to my best points.
Thank you for listening,
for validating my feelings.
You have opened my eyes to the power that rests inside of me
and for that I love you.
