Redemption
I remember the rhymes
Paced for better times
Telling me to run
Just for the fun of it.
So I ran.
Then I learned
That running away, hiding in shame from what was real
Returned burning of scars that hadn’t time yet to heal.
One at the heart remembering what was
One in the stomach, filled up because
All the crap I was fed
Needed a home.
And I could stomach that.
When I stopped my running, lung set on fire.
I returned to face those, those who called liar.
If my pants were still burning?
How are they there?
If my heart was done yearning?
Would I still really care?
Redemption isn’t achieved five miles away
Redemption is fought for amidst the foray.
Running is forgetting
But regret is faster than I.
Redemption is forgiving
and the truth can never lie.
Reclaiming your worth and forgetting those rhymes
Is picking up the pencil and writing your own lines.
Make your story great.
Redemption.
Now that is awesome.
