Redemption
Pain shatters my world.
One I had once called friend had just backstabbed me.
Threats still hang in the air, floating around.
The lies, the accusations hit me yet again with full force.
How could this happen?

My eardrums explode from the commotion.
My boss is yelling at me,
Telling me what an insolent fool I am.
He berates me for every little mistake I’ve made,
Spittle landing on my face.
What did I do to deserve this?

I walk out to my car, fumbling
With the keys.
As I pause to fit the key in the lock,
I see him walking into the building
Across the street.
My heart pounds, and I begin to call
Out to him.
But wait, there’s another girl with him.
He has his arm around her.
They share a smile.
What is going on?

I walk into my house,
Tears streaming down my face.
Is it all really worth it?
The agony is unbearable.
I walk into my room,
And the feelings overtake me.
Unable to think of anything else, I leave
A note.
Not that anybody will care.
Prepare to take the most drastic step, I leave my room…
And walk straight into the arms
Of my mother.
She comforts me, saying soothing
Words.
Words of peace.
Words that dull the throbbing pain.
She tells me how priceless I am.
