Reflection

I'm Looking into the Looking Glass of the world. A mirror even. As I see a reflection of a little brown girl, I realize that it's not me. It's a girl who's tired. She pleads for the world to take her and leave her alone. She wants to be heard. She wants to be listened to! She wants the human species to join together, and appreciate the little things. She wants the man she once knew as her father to return, he's not gone. No! He still walks among us, just not with us, which makes his distance a thousand miles away. She wants to be loved by her loved ones. When she looks down at her body, she doesn't want to see self-harm or scars of the abusive relationships she once had. The ridiculous exchange of words spoken by one another. She wants to be free, to be able to wear a real smile and hold her head up high away from the torment, and the nightmares, and the tragic reminders of what used to be. That little black girl wants to happy.
