Reflection
She looked down to avoid her reflection.
Ashamed of what she had become.
At first, she was his perfection.
Their hearts beat to the same drum.
She yearned for his affection
Yet he treated her like scum.
She lost her sense of direction.
Who would’ve thought she would succumb.
She lost her artistic expression
She wouldn’t pick up the guitar to scrum.
His love was like an infection
She couldn’t overcome.
She was once proud to be his selection
But he left her feeling dumb.
It started with over protection
She started to feel glum.
Next it was inspection
She started to feel numb.
Then it was her objection
We all know the outcome.
It was more than physical connection
His “I love you” was like rum.
She blamed self-deception
It blinded her for what was to come.
She was tired of neglection
She became unrecognizable to some.
He cared nothing about her loss of conception
She always wanted to be a mum
She fought depression
But she knew who she had to get away from
Ahead was progression
She ran from his slum
