Reflection

When you look in the mirror

what do you see

Where you see beauty

I just see me.

Eyes void of emotion that I’ve

suppressed.

From criticism received

even when I looked my best.

Clothes layered on like armor

to hide my flaws.

So not to attract unwanted

attention and cat calls.

Feet enclosed in shoes suffocated.

Like society has done to me since

I was created.

When you look in the mirror

what do you see.

Where you see beauty

I just see me

Heart filled with so much love

I can no longer contain.

These emotions I’ve tried to

refrain.

Skin bared for all to see

curves cascaded with mark

That have shaped me into who

I’m meant to be

Mouth open wide

voice projected loud and strong

No longer afraid to say this is

where I belong.

Now when you look in the mirror

what do you see

If you said beauty I can’t help but agree.
