The Reflection

Location

I look in the mirror

And what do I see?

I see my reflection

But that’s not what everyone sees

Some see a person

Who is flawed

They think they’re

Ugly, fat, worthless,

trash, pathetic, lousy,

a freak, and unwanted

But that’s not true

They get caught up in

what others say about them

But they are all lies

Everyone has flaws that’s true

So embrace them

Because you’re beautiful

no matter what others say

There will always be people who talk

but there will always be people who care as well

So look in the mirror again,

Only this time

stand tall, smile, and say

“I am beautiful”

And watch closely

since the reflection is smiling back at you

saying your beautiful

My favorite lines of this poem are "There will always be people who talk / but there will always be people who care as well" because you inspire the reader to realize that they are in fact beautiful no matter what other people say. Also for every person that puts someone down, there is another waiting to pick them back up. I also like the end of the poem where you write about how the only person whose opinion you should care about is your own, and that everyone should gain the confidence to look in the mirror and tell themselves that they are beautiful. I think this poem could make a really cool video- have you ever made a multimedia poem? Check out how and more in the Resources section.
