Reflection of Change Letter

Dear Change,

As I peer back into the past many questions arise

Questions about our troubling times

How few the changes we have seen

Though we keep saying that we’re improving

That things are getting better

I keep seeing the past repeating

Cycling through a loop of depression

That shatters the spirits of man

We stay in captivity and Judge from our view

That makes it seem that everyone else is in a cage

While we roam free doing all the things that we please

Changing our environment as we see fit

However, we never realize that we are the ones looking out not in

Delivering a closed minded view of the world we see

For once the eyes have been opened it can’t be unseen

We resist the idea of our encampment for it takes away freedom

However, it’s this very lie that we accept that keeps us trapped

We refuse to accept our reality which only makes our cage grow smaller

For how can you escape from your confinement if you deny its existence

To make a change you must first accept the world’s predicaments

A concept simple in practice but hard in application

For who willingly welcomes the pain

The anguish that this world seems to bring

Devouring the poor weak souls without the strength to fight their way through

Who long since lost the light of hope

For every time it appeared the world took it away

The great vision that we keep seeing

Slowly fading away until it’s nothing but a dream

Possible on in the confines of the mind

For we don’t take action beyond the realms of dreams

Too afraid of the results we may see

Never realizing that while we fear the world crushing our dreams of change

That we’re the ones that are destroying it every day

Letting it die out before even a speck of its light can be seen

For we lack the conviction to follow through

To stick to our hopes no matter what

Even if the world comes and stand in our way

We need to keep fighting until it's removed from our path

The world while strong and resistant to change

Can’t stop us if we put our heart in our demands

Throwing away our fear and doubt that holds us back

So that we can open our cage and wings

So that we can sour and show the world the power of our dreams
