The Reflections of a Silent Soul
I am a quiet, still lake
From which fragile thoughts may wake,
A deep, unbroken pool of mystery
That isn’t what it appears at first glance to be.
Though on the surface, silent, serene,
First impressions whisk away at the sight of the hoard beneath.
Vibrant colors, gems, a spring of life,
I possess my own hidden, inner light.
I am a statue that lies beyond the eye’s attention,
I see much, though I make no mention.
Perceiving the wilting world in all its beauty,
Meditating on the roses that can never wrap their roots around stone’s eternity.
I am the wind’s subtle whisper,
I try not to be a boisterous preacher.
I do not make much needless noise
Because I believe that the loudest words come from a quiet voice.
I am a house on a concrete foundation,
On rules, restrictions, regulations.
Guidelines help us see
When voices prey on our wants and needs.
I hold tight to my faith, my cornerstone,
Though cast aside by others, it upholds my home.
Rain may pierce with hail and gale
But on this stone I will prevail.
This is who I am,
Now try to understand,
I will not change like the shifting sands
To satisfy the flimsy will of man.
