Refuge

I don’t know you, You don’t know me. I don’t know your past, You don’t know mine. We’re both equally secretive, Only revealing our deepest thoughts and feelings To those whom we truly trust, A very short list in both cases. We’ve made our share of mistakes, Broken hearts, Had our hearts broken, Lived through our personal hells. Our selves are as fragmented As our families prove to be. We thought our only refuge Was among the shattered pieces of our minds. But we discovered that Neither of us is alone. Our meeting was purely circumstantial, Our relationship accidental. But it’s putting each of us back together, Gradually, piece by piece, Because we now know we each have a place of refuge: In each other’s arms. I don’t know you, You don’t know me. I don’t know your past, You don’t know mine. We each have a dark place We’ve had to pull ourselves out of, But those places have no hold on us anymore. We have each found refuge.
