Refuge
(poems go here) I long to inhabit your hurt,
If only you’ll let me.
Though the door has been busted down,
And your walls have crumbled to the ground,
I dare not force my way inside.
Instead, I’ll wait outside these ruins
Until you let me in.
I long to fix up this place,
If only you’ll let me.
I watch you struggle alone in your secret place.
You don’t see me,
But I’m right there with you.
My love, every tear you cry,
Is a tear I cry.
Every ache in your bones,
Is an ache in my bones.
Every fracture in your heart,
Is a fracture in my heart.
I take on your pain
As though it were my own,
So that you will know
That you’re never alone.
Will you sit here forever,
Beneath the weight of your shame,
Trapped in the aftermath,
And rubbing the wounds on your weary feet?
My beloved, lift up your eyes,
And see the hand that’s reaching through your darkness
To release you from your prison,
To restore what’s been wrecked.
Rise up from where you’ve fallen.
I will build my home inside your broken hopes.
I will reside in the place where your dreams died.
I will lay my head where your sorrow began.
I will gather the pieces that have been chipped off your heart.
I will do this, because you are mine,
Because I created your hands to be instruments of love.
I created your eyes to shine the light of life.
I created your legs to dance for joy.
I created your heart to hold beauty.
I created your mind to embrace thoughts of goodness.
You are more than the shadows that surround you.
I am more than a voice in your head.
I am the knocking at the door.
I am the hand reaching through your darkness.
I am the restorer of your life.
You are the hurting,
And I am the healer.
You are my child.
And I am yours.
I am the Face of Love.
I AM.
