Refugeless

"Love from which there is no refuge-"

Born an infant in the hay-

Power moving the universe-

Made fragile flesh on Christmas Day.

Logos spoken and unspoken

Echoing through eternity…

Creator incarnate Creature-

Takes on our mortality.

History now holds its Author-

The Timeless has entered time-

The Divine Poet has written-

Himself - a Word in His Own rhyme.

The Uncaused Cause has come forth-

Helpless babe from a woman’s womb,

The Almighty has walked and wept-

From birth even until His tomb.

The Artist Who formed the heavens

Has sucked at a woman’s breast;

He who divided night and day-

Has lain down at night to rest.

Finite arms held the Infinite-

She - who was the Maker’s Mother-

Kissed by the God-Child of her flesh-

Her God, her Son, her Brother.

And we too hold the Word-

Logos daily incarnate made-

The Timeless forever in time-

On vulnerable altar laid.

We refugees from this Love-

From which no refuge can be found-

Must journey through the snow to Him,

And lay our burdens on the ground.

And kneeling quiet before Him-

Though we have nought else to bring-

Will bring our hearts to His Love,

And refugeless we will sing.
