Regrets

I miss
the friends I never made,
the smiles I never showed,
the secrets I never whispered,
the laughs I never shared.
I miss
the places I never went,
the thoughts I never had,
the songs I never sang,
the books I never read.
I miss
the love I never gave,
the hearts I never broke,
the tears I never shed,
the words I never spoke.
I miss
the things I never did,
the chances I never took,
the wishes I never wished,
the endings I never had.
Now
as I stand here so alone
thinking back on the days long gone
wistful of
the person I never was.
