Release
When speaking aloud seems to fail me;
When the emotion has built up inside of me to the point where I cannot speak at all,
How do I release all those surmounting syllables that I cannot seem to get out?
Is there no one that understands?
Can someone say it for me?
Nobody can speak my mind but me.
That's why I write: To let my thoughts go.
They spill onto my page in a torrent of gray;
Saving me when I feel my life is ruined.
The words are there to make me laugh or let me cry.
My poetry is my way of relaxing or fighting back.
When I was first introduced to the art of poetry in preschool,
It seemed just nonsense.
Rhyming words just to be witty?
What utter nonsense!
Years later, I discovered there is more than one kind of poem.
Some of them don't have to rhyme or be funny.
I can write whatever I want to write.
They are my words, and no one can stop them.
Most of the time, people don't hear them, anyway.
Poetry is a personal thing for me.
It is my release from pain and stress.
I need that release in my life.
That's why I write.
