You took something away from me

I will never be the same

Every day I carry around a secret

Feeling dirty and ashamed

You broke me into pieces

And then you did it again

And there’s no amount of healing

That can put me back like I was then

You took away my sense of safety

I lie awake at night

Every time I hear a sound

I always jump in fright

I know I can’t go back to how I was

You can’t just forget something like this

So often I’ve felt so hopeless

Like I’m dangling over an abyss

But there’s something you didn’t count on

Something that even I didn’t see

I’m still standing here fighting

I’m a better, stronger me

Yes, I may have some damage

But I’m NOT broken to the core

Now I know that I’m stronger

Than I ever was before

So, yes, you are an asshole

That will always remain true

But I’m not going to continue to hate myself

Over an action done by you

What you did wasn’t my fault

I am NOT the one to blame

And i will not continue to go around

Carrying this shame

So thank you for this lesson

I’m stronger than I know

And all the blame, guilt, and hate I have for me

I think it’s time to let it go
