RELENTLESS

Worn out and tired,

Up and out to the office I go.

Is it worth it?

Yes, I say to the mirror.

Trudging down the steps,

Making sure I have my wallet.

Out the door, the sun hits me,

The only real light I’ll see all day.

More steps in the distance,

How my body is aching.

Shuffling through the lobby,

I make my way to the eighth floor.

Telephones ringing, people pacing,

Keyboard clicking, and papers printing.

The night sky falls.

I sigh in relief,

As I pack up the day.

The first in, last to leave.

Back up the stairs.

Leaving stress at the door,

I gently lay down on my bed.

The daily escape I was longing for.

I am patient,

But relentless.
