Rember the ride

The way the trees sway with their leaves dancing in the wind
I think back to those back roads and how the roads did bend
The thought of the summer sun beaming through the windshield
How the beautiful marigolds danced in the open field.
Oh how the shades of green brought a smile to my face
But life took a turn and now we're traveling at a different pace.
The thought of how the wind smelled of honeysuckles
As we drove through the hills neglecting the safety of our buckles
We felt invincible with our freedom
Cut short by the realization that this wasn't our fairytale kingdom
I chose a life of service
You chose one that gave you purpose
Separated with the severing of hearts
One last ride before my metallic bird departs.
