Remember This
Excuse me
I know you don’t know me and I don’t know you but…
Right now I just want to take this time and live in this moment
Just to remember this day when I first came up to you and said…
Hey
Before June 5th comes and the bell rings
And we all push and scream to collect our things
I just wanted to come up to you and say…
Hey
I mean it’s not just me
I hope you try to remember this too
Remember this day when we met and it all began
The reason why I wake up in the morning and see this bracelet on my hand
So I won’t wonder why I talk to you all night about my dreams and my frights and you say it’s alright because the bugs don’t bite
Or think why you know my secrets and I know yours
Or why we eat lunch together on the hallway floors and…
It was all because of this day when I sat next to you and said…
Hey
Try to remember this
Try to remember me
Before we start to walk around to say this was our last or sign each other’s book filled with memories of our past
Before we all meet in our alphabetical seats in front of our families
Before it’s too late
Because I don’t know what the future holds
Or whether or not our friendship will stay strong or come to a close
But all that I need to know is that you will remember this
Because I don’t want your memory to forget me
Please don’t let this friendship we share split away
Just let me know in reassurance that you will forever remember today
Because I know you’ll make friends while you’re away in college
And this day might get pushed back by all your new goals and knowledge
But just know that I’ll always be here with this memory sitting nice and polished
So just remember right here
Here where I stand and where I made my mark
Not where we started from the bottom
But where we started from the start
So when June 6th comes
And we wear our gowns on our arms
And throw our caps to the sky
I will turn to look at you
Not with the look of saying goodbye
But with the look for when the next time I see you
You’ll be the first one to say
Hi
