Remember, Forget, Endure, and Rise

Jeremy, Marcus

And Lauren

Nothing good

Comes with those names

Those names

Make me see red

A dark time

I’ll always remember

There was a time

When those names

Had power over me

Made me cry

When I hear the word “bully”

Those names enter my mind

Forever hatefully synonymous

Loathsome in memory

But yet I wonder

Would my name

They recognize

Or has it fled

From their mind

There is a proverb:

The axe forgets

The tree remembers

I wonder if it rings true

These people

So ingrained in my mind

Could so easily forget

The harm they’ve done

Why is it so easy

To forget the good

And remember the bad

Why do they stick in our mind

If I could

I’d erase those names

Those memories

But I can’t

Instead I’ll say thank you

For showing me the truth

The world can be cruel

But I’ll endure

In this world

There are thousands

Of Laurens

Jeremys

And Marcuses

With spiteful words

Looking to tear me down

To boost themselves with my pain

But I’ll endure

With every push

I’ll rise again

A phoenix in my own right

I may seem weak

Like easy prey

And perhaps I was

But no longer

They may forget

But I’ll always remember

And thanks to them

I’ll always endure

I’ll always rise stronger
