Remember To Love Me

With an education system that is flawed were you ever expected to do great?

We forget to teach teachers that learning goes beyond the classroom and into a student's heart.

The greatest thing I learned in school was outside of the classroom

Some teachers went the extra mile

They loved the student and their mind.

An education system that is pitted against students of color and skewed towards kids with fair skin, it's a haunting reality.

Black students, Asian students, Hispanic and Latinx students- they learn about the dark, sad parts of their identity in relation to America.

The SAT and ACT are not made for those who can not afford to pay for prep to succeed.

Low-income students are not set up to succeed. Black and brown kids are not set up to succeed.

The greatest thing I learned in school was outside of the classroom

Some teachers went the extra mile

They loved the student and their mind.

When teachers saw me as more than just a mind to fill with random pieces of information they will forget I enjoyed learning

I loved sitting in classes where I was forced to think outside of the box

I loved sitting in math class and learning about the relationship between blackness and numbers

I loved sitting in English class where I asked if for Black History Month could only black students read August Wilson's Piano Lesson out loud in class

I loved sitting in History class where we had conversations on why we breezed the Feminist and Gay rights movement but lingered on the Civil Rights Movement.
