Remember When

Remember When?

Hey, do you remember those days?

In the elementary years
We were all short with huge eyes and ears.

We were just simply kids walking around in a daze
Telling our parents about our school days

We had not a care in the world
At recess, in dizzy circle we twirled.

We didn’t care about money, jobs, or cars.
Our nights were spent wishing on shooting stars
GI Joes and Barbie dolls were all we played with
Santa Clause and the Tooth Fairy weren’t just myths.

Girls ruled and boys drooled we would scream
And pushing each other out of the way at lunch for ice cream.

Hey, can you remember when
We were just little kids and anything would make us grin?

Years passed and Middle school came
We treated life like it was a game.

Cooties and boy shots were simply gone
Lines between evil and good were now drawn.
Fights with friends were fought
Lessons in right and wrong were taught.

Boys being dared to eat dirt and worms
Girls were now realizing that boys don’t have germs.
Holding hands was scary
Kissing made our mom’s wary.

Eating a bag filled with sugar mixed with Kool-Aid
And the Pokémon and Yu-Go-Oh cards that kids would trade.

When we wouldn’t get our way, we would stick out our tongue
Remember those days when we were young?

High School didn’t come soon enough
Don’t show your fear- just act tough.

Relationships, part-time jobs, and our first cars
Going to parties because we couldn’t sneak into the bars

Girls playing football and guys coaching the powder puff
Everyone dressed up, freezing in the cold but still acting tough.

Homecoming parties, prom dresses, and a date
Having so much fun and looking so great.
Paying all that money for a fancy dinner and a night to dance
And maybe to find a little romance
You and your boyfriend or girlfriend being unable to part
And learning the true meaning of love and having a broken heart

Running around with friends and doing stupid things
Accepting whatever life brings.

Inside jokes in classes and laughing our heads off
Getting caught by the teachers and trying to make it sound like a cough.

MySpace, Facebook; tons of pictures and posts
Finding out that our teachers have accounts and thinking it was gross.

In our teens- fun is never far behind
And is always on our minds.

Decked out cars and trucks can drive fast
The fun never lasts.

Car crashes suck
Cheating death is just luck.

Death is a hard price to pay
It leaves us all in dismay.

Having your friends dieing is hard
It leaves your hearts scarred.
Seeing where they sat
Remembering when you two would chat.

Funerals are tough
Moving on is rough.

Her smile would light up a room
Causing everyone else’s to soon bloom.

Sometimes God just wants one
Before her life has truly begun.

Through the years we’ve learned a lot
Like how to not get caught
Friendships can be forever
And we are not always so clever.

We are seniors now
Relax and wipe your brow.

We made it through
Who would have knew?
When all began as kids with simple dreams
Taking everything anyone said to the extremes

We never thought we would get to this point
Now we just don’t want to disappoint.

ACTs, SATs and college applications
Trying to resist all of those temptations

We’ve stood by each other through the thick and thin

Hey, Do you remember when?
