Remember when we forgot

(poems go here) Do you remember the moment we forgot how to talk to each other? It was the exact moment your emotions became Facebook, The only way I knew how your day went and why it took that turn was on Twitter and the only time I saw you was on Instagram or Tumblr. Do you remember how we forgot what it was like to actually talk to each other? How your lips hugged every word carefully so I would understand what you meant when you said, "I like you" instead of your fingers hugging the screen of your phone for a misunderstanding. I couldn't hear the tone of sarcasm in my ringtone. I remember how I forgot your face. It was all over your social media pages but with the edits I couldn't see the laugh lines I know are on the corner of your mouth, you are young but your permanent smile didn't help keep them away like you wanted. Your eyes always had stories like when we were 10 we built a fort out of sheets, couch cushions, and sticks; You hung Christmas lights to show me what we've built in a place where our friendship was all we knew. you told me,"this beautiful place won't be ours forever but our friendship would help each other pave concrete onto cushions and sheets." Instead I only see the reflection of your phone from the mirror you are posing in front of.

this is exactly why I do not have a Facebook. Finally I find a statement of truth about social media. The idea of it is not bad, but when you partake in social media there is only one outcome. You are forced to uphold a certain standard by others so that you feel ordinary. All it does is change your character into a person that will do anything to get the attention in their direction. People start to be comfortable in exploring social media rather than exploring the world.... Good job on the poem.
