Remembering Alan

The sun was bright, the sky was blue,

It was a perfect day.

Two little boys ran all around,

Oh how they loved to play!

That fateful day those happy boys,

Thought they’d have lots of fun.

They played so hard outside all day

But to return... just one.

For tragedy came from that day,

Close by their own front door.

The oldest one had grief to bear,

The youngest was no more.

A mom and dad wept on the floor,

For Alan was not there.

No child to tuck in at night,

Nor find him clothes to wear.

I should have been a mom of two,

My heart is deep with pain.

I see him smiling at me now,

Through that old picture-frame.

Each evening it appears to me,

As I lie down to pray.

My Allan hanging from that tree,

As rosy skies turn gray.

The hurt has eased a little now,

Within this life of mine.

It brings me joy that he’s with God,

And I will heal with time.
