Remembering a Star
Many of us have lost family and friends to this disease.
These family and friends are both women and men, young and old.
It can run in a family and it cannot, it could be like a breeze.
It can slowly but easily take our loved ones away, it seems so cold.
I know because I've seen this illness at work.
It has been conquering the lives of the innocent.
Cancer takes these lives with a smirk.
Everything that had happened during and after the incident seemed infinite.
My family was devastated.
Everything that happened because of the cancer was revolting.
It was unfair especially when it had dominated.
I got there just in time to see her taken away; all I could consider was bolting.
I never got to say goodbye before she past…
But seeing her that way has kept me from remembering the happy her.
All our family said their byes after she was gone, I was the last…
I held her freezing hand, I tried to muster up something to say, and then all I could see was a blur.
The aching in my throat made me realize that I was crying…
I quickly said I love you and goodbye.
I left the hospital room with tears streaming down my face… it was surprising.
I never cried so much; afterwards I just wanted to see the sky.
I wanted to see the new star that formed.
To see the star that would represent the loved one, who just passed hours before.
I didn't get the chance because the household where I lived was transformed.
I want her to know that I love her from my very core.
