Repeat

Over and over,
I hear the same words.
"You need to tell,
or you will not get well."
I already understand,
it's now only a single drum in a band.
The same phrases I hear,
which I have now come to fear.
Fear of getting scolded,
and by words scalded
until I am crimson
and my throat raw.
Like thorns on a rose,
every word of yours makes me bleed.
This path you have chosen
of making me heed
every word you say.
It is drilled into me every day.
I DO comprehend,
and I DO NOT spend
my every thought on thinking
how sour my life must be.
Oh give me a break,
I do not take
every opportunity
to mend my sanity.
I am only human,
am I not?
So please,
do know that I listen.
Do not pound lectures into me,
or I will feel the need to flee.
So, please...
Forgive me if it's you I displease.
But I will now take my leave
to mend
my permanent bend.
