Requiem of a Friend

Dear friend,

I remember the days

as if’t were Yesterday

where echoes of innocence—

Blindness—

peeked out maturity’s deafening calls.

that was before;

here I flounder in the After,

Cowering at the unraveled ends

of Fortune’s Hand—

Coiled to a Fist—

Casting the earth to her whims.

In dawning days

I followed Your steps along

fens and dens of feral beasts,

mapping the world as We explored

lands aloof of

Our troubles.

You taught me to grow,

Rising from depths below—

Ascent—

to a greater purpose.

so I followed—

Follow—

To the end of time,

when I rejoice in shadow.

Mentor, Friend, Brother,

guiding the sun at life’s morn

‘till my sky fell black at noon.

Fortune’s fangs left no life.

Her poison shattered childhood,

leaving a broken man to weld

splintered shards into a shield

To block her Fate.

though I stand Alone,

Unsure of the world,

Your precence reminds me of

who I was:

Before.

when I stray from my mission,

recede to the Dark,

You guide me back to action,

back to Your mark.

I go on now, to some future

alone—

Not, for You Live—

Immortal, Free

Until Fortune’s Finale.

With Love,

Anonymous
