resilience

dear tiny little flower

growing from the sidewalk crack,

you

give

me

hope.

the odds were against you.

the chances of your seed landing there

and water seeping in

and tendrils of sunshine reaching you

what are the chances?

the

chances

are

slim.

the sidewalk is an oxymoron,

an uninhabitable living space.

yet, you grow.

your tiny little green leaves reach to the sky

your tiny little petals smile at passersby

your tiny little roots sink into the earth

a tiny little bright spot in

a

huge

dark

world.

you give me hope.

that maybe one day i can find the luck

to beat the odds

that maybe one day i can find the strength

to grow in unforgiving soil

that maybe one day i can find the happiness

to be a bright spot

that

gives

others

hope.
