Resolution
I heard something today,
It reminded me of what a journey really is.
A journey is a journey because
You are searching for one thing.
The journey ends when you find it,
Or when you lose it.
I will spend my life finding things I like,
Things I want...
But all variations of what I desire.
I will run into so many shades of grey,
They each hold promise and potential
As well as doubt and flaws.
A career, an adventure,
A partner, a family....
Anything and everything I could want,
More or less...
I cannot settle for more or less.
I will not settle for more or less.
If I settle for something like what I want
Or almost what I want
Then I will never achieve what I want.
Being selective is not a crime,
Giving up on what makes you happy is one.
When I allow an object of desire to slip past me,
That is what I earned, fought for and yearned for
That I chose to let go.
If you know that one piece,
That one word was there,
That it is real.
You see it there, each letter
Floating around to find it's place.
You feel the invisible lines
Tickling the edge of your mind,
Waiting for your tongue to grasp it,
Do you let go?
I don't.
I won't.
I cannot settle for a synonym of Excellence
When I know the word is Perfection.
So whether it is my job, a new car, a piece of my work,
A lover, friend or anything that could end,
I cannot afford to settle grey spots,
When I want black and white.
Nothing worth fighting for comes easy,
but is anything easy worth fighting for?
Is McDonalds the real substitute for a grand feast
Because it's food?
Target underwear the same as Victoria's Secret
Because they're the same color?
Is an autograph from Stan Lee the same as a forgery
Just because the name is the same?
A cook, designer and Stan could all tell you no.
If I know one thing will make me happy,
Why should I settle for anything less?
So I tell you, friend
This is how my journey will end.
