Resolving My Existential Crisis

We are nothing

But the whims of the universe;

We are just the cohesion

Of some otherworldly force.

It’s a coincidence

That these elements came together

To form my existence.

What a gift

To be thought of so highly

By the universe—

To be worthy

Of what made the stars.

How small the earth must feel

When compared to what we are;

We are everything that ever was

And we’ll continue just as far.

But in this conspiracy of importance,

Remember to look back.

The earth remains—

The Pale Blue Dot.

If we abandon it,

It’s iron core will rot.

We have an obligation to the stars,

To make them agree,

That their efforts in creation

Were not done in futility.

So while you remember how much you are worth,

Also remember those people on earth.
