Respect

I said I love you at nineteen

young and carefree

but oh so naive.

You came along

one good looking bad boy

that did not belong.

Witty and charming

and in desperate need of some love;

that should have been my warning.

For years we were THAT couple

and for years you just couldn't stay faithful.

How many did you sleep with?

Oh yeah, there were more than a handful.

But you told me not to worry

because you only loved me...

and you were more than sorry.

But let me get this straight,

because you love me

other girls you date.

Because you love me

it's me you deprecate.

Well, because I love you

it's time

for me to say good-bye to you.

If you really loved me...

I deserved respect

and because you loved me...

you should've showed it before I left.
