To Respect a Piano

In an old building at the back of an alley

Sits an equally old piano.

One can imagine the chants and steps it once played,

Yet now it sits in silence

Except for when the occasional passerby takes notice.

This passerby may overt his eyes in respect

Or he may instill his condolences in a chord,

To which the piano always responds.
