Restoration

Behind the filter,

the tough exterior,

the brick wall that seems so strong,

has started to lose its mortar,

and started to crumble.

Beneath the weight of self criticism

and the tornado winds of others.

Self distortion is

when you see yourself

in a lesser light, whether

its self doubt, criticism, or loss of self worth.

When it gets boiled down, self image has been displaced somewhere along the way.

For whatever reason someone has torn down confidence and

wreaked havoc in some way or another.

Brick walls are supposed to stand the tests of time.

They are built to keep others out and

the rest of us in.

Why is it then that some walls seem to have the equivalent of termites in them?

Feeding, nesting and waiting for the perfect moment to destroy the foundation.

Once the foundation is ruined; and all that’s left is rubble

nothing is left to protect; the defences have fallen.

Looking glass self is

when a person lets what others think of them

affect how they see themselves.

Self image should only be strengthened; not torn down, diminished or destroyed.

People shouldn’t feel the need to change in order to please others;

that being said, most people are in positions to please others; people of authority.

Only someone who is self aware is strong enough to break the mirror,

shattering the glass and sending broken pieces everywhere.

The brick wall doesn’t have to be rebuilt.

The emotions don’t have to be shut out.

All of the pieces don’t have to be put together exactly as they were before;

they simply have to resemble something that is put together.

There needs to be some sort of protection as reconstruction is occurring.

But once the rebuilding is over, people seem not to need the protection.

They are perfectly fine with shattered sight and seeing people as they truly are.

Restoration seems impossible with the tornado winds spitting venomous and condescending tones,

but somehow people seem to push through it.

They prevail and don’t look back on that closed chapter of their life,

People seem to ignore the world trying to keep them grounded,

instead they telling themselves that they can even if no one else believes in them.

After a storm, people always seem to come out of the woodwork and help each other.

No matter how hard the world pushes someone, that person shows the world that it will survive.
