The Revelation

I was young and scared of nothing,

nothing I couldn’t do before.

I could be a kangaroo jumping

or be a queen of lore.

My world of dreams was stunning,

this, I thought, for sure.

Sadly, my tale does not end there,

but it’s one I need to share.

At twelve a foe came one day,

taking my dreams away.

Realization revealed truths

of which I was blind to my youth.

Fear and pain, in fact, existed,

and I found the world more twisted.

When I was young I could be anything,

and the world before me sung.

I would close my eyes and sprout wings,

my naive mind so young.

Only as I began to comprehend,

my eyes were opened to the world at hand.

Reality replaced my far-off lands.

I had grown up; I could understand.
