Riddles Darken Us (Dedicated to Anna)
This is a riddle
It's dark
I'm not in a room or a field
I'm in the dark.
There are no physicaly surroundings.
Only darkness. Just darkness.
Redundantly dark.
Hollow, you could say.
There must be an end to this darkness if I could just find a way out.
Then, There's a light.
A brilliant light.
I try to follow it
But it goes out
First I'm confused
Then shivers run up my spine
When I realize
Someone blew it out.
As though it were just a cold flame.
I feel inside that there's someone in this darkness with me.
Something not completely human
Something dark.
I don't move
For fear I will bump into it.
This is a riddle.
I want to move
For fear it can see me.
This darkness is endless.
My heartbeat is not.
My life could be snuffed out like that brilliant light.
I'm trying to make my own light in this world
But I can't.
And it's still there in the dark with me, and somehow, I know, that it is smiling at my horror.
This is a riddle in the dark.
