Right?
Why does she never leave?
Why does she stay with him?
I saw him hit her,
when he swung his hand
and the sickening sound
that came from the contact
between his fleshy fingers
and her gentle face.
Her face is
no longer gentle.
It is swollen and purple.
Sunglasses cover her
puffy eyes, makeup cover
her cheeks, it makes her
look like a chipmunk.
She munches on ice
just to help
subside the pain.
I overheard them
talking, more like him
trying to explain himself
away. "Why do you keep
doing this to me?!"
"Because I love you!"
And that's all she needs.
She goes right
back into the blender
happily waiting
for his blades to dice
her until she's mush.
This is not love,
not that I could tell
you what it is.
Right?
This isn't love...
When he says all those
sweet words and brings her
gifts...
It's all fake,
right?
He hits her once,
but apologizes,
he didn't mean it,
right?
And when I crawl into bed
with his handprint seared
into my arm,
it's still love,
right?
He loves me...
I love him...
Why haven't I left him?
