A Right of Passage

It is a right of passage

They are just trying to fit in

An innocent party gone wrong

is where this story begins

The children drink

and the parents wait up

for a call that says

“My sister

can’t

get

up”

Second worry- alcohol poisoning

First worry- rape

“Mom, something is wrong.”

“Mom, something is Wrong.”

“Mom, Something Is Wrong.”

She thought there would be adult supervision

Now the children have

blurred vision

vomit on their blouses

worried sick parents

rushing out of their houses

to go rescue and hope for the best

The best would have been not giving into

temptation- or knowing when to

stop

The thing is- you might not know when to

stop

but your body does

This time it will do so on the cold, wet

ground

in an

ambulance

and on a

bed

in the emergency room shaped like a

coffin

They are just blessed they rested on the

ground

Instead of being laid to rest

in it

The youngest teen is stuck in between

trying to fit in and trying to keep everyone safe

This back and forth brings her back to her

garage to watch the older

surrounded by paramedics

Can’t make sound besides

“Mom, Something Is Wrong.”

that, and the screams of shallow breathing

that comes slowly

Mistakes were made

but everyone will wake the next day

This time
