Rising from Ash

To me the world becomes a barren place.

Great big, monstrous shadows seem to loom,

It is always dark, looks like empty space.

The darkness only fuels my inner gloom.

I sit here all alone thinking, fearing.

Where is has the warmth gone to, the light?

I consider these thoughts, still endearing.

Why hold on to this world? Why still fight?

These thoughts encase my mind, like bees they swarm.

But, in the distance, it taunts me, fear.

Can almost feel it, an echo of warm.

Then hope, it draws close, the dark not near.

Learning from the past sins of my father.

Light shines, burning away traitors of doubt.

Choosing what to pass on to sons, daughters.

Cycles end, new roads begin, a fresh route.

A new generation of hope starts here.

I’m free, but I’m not without penalty.

Scars mark my soul, but nothing left to fear.

Free, my life is now my own destiny.
