Rising Conflict

Today I saw lightning

Sparking the clouds to life

The light jumped from one side of the horizon to the next

A mixture of pure silver and gentle blue flashed in the reflection of my eyes.

No sound to accompany the light.

The other side of the horizon cloudless, perfectly still

A pale empty blue

Only a sliver of the moon was barely present in the still blue.

The world had split into two.

One side terrified, cowering in the still blue

While the other raged in silence, the entire world reflecting it’s anger.

Somewhere in the thin line of absolutely no safety between the two sides I stood, lost.

Voices shouted on the breeze while the still blue vanished.

Revealing a horizon on fire, the moon swallowed by the starving reds and oranges.

The thin place of no guaranteed sanctuary grew smaller and smaller

As the lightning grew closer to the reds, lights trespassing over the fading blue.

While the fire devoured the sky reaching out to consumer the lightning.

Where am i to flee when the very sky above my head leans toward war?

Cowering within the walls of the house behind me would not save me

Because there was a whole different war there.

I remained between the two fronts, waiting for the first strike

My breath caught in my lungs, unable to escape not by my own will.

The space dead center of the wars grew smaller

While the world threatened to smother me in it’s conflict.

There was no longer any place to hide, no chance of survival.

As the silver lights struck the burning reds and oranges

The shouting echoed to the street through the houses open windows.

Time did not stop, did not hesitate

While I collapsed in on myself acknowledging my first home would be in a grave.
