Risking Brokenness

Everyone falls in love,
And everyone loses what they love,
Eventually, they all become hardened and guarded,
They are hurt and afraid of more heartbreak,
We are taught to protect and guard our hearts so we won’t be hurt,
But I was just thinking,
What on EARTH are we living for, if not for love?
I’m not necessarily talking about falling in love in a romantic sense,
But for goodness sake, I love music
I love poetry,
I love a good book,
Or a beautiful character,
I love crooked sneaky smiles,
And deep laughter,
I love hugging my best friends,
If I’m honest, I love kissing,
Kissing is great,
I love sharing secrets late at night with my childhood best friend,
I love sunrise and sunset,
and the stars at night *big and bright deep in the heart of Texas*
I love drinking black coffee on the back patio of my favorite local coffee shop, as the boy who continually breaks my heart smokes his cigarettes,
I love talking to my brother about any and everything and hearing what wisdom he has, even at his age,
I love the Lord and all He has blessed me with,
I live for these things, these moments, these experiences
But ya know what?
They all eventually hurt me,
Or break my heart,
In one way or another,
So do I give up?
Do I stop sharing those moments,
Stop opening my heart?
Is it worth it?
I think it is,
I would rather have a million heartbreaks and only a thousand of those perfect moments,
Then to live in fear of the inevitable,
And miss the adventure of it all
