Like the river.

Twilight dusts the petals of this wildflower meadow.

The crickets hum;

they are everywhere

and nowhere.

A gusty sigh rustles the long sweet grass,

tickling the backs of our legs.

A wind as warm as your breath

against my cheek.

With you I am home;

I feel whole in a way

I never have before. Now, nestled close against me,

I can smell the sweet vanilla perfume of your hair.

Your fingers in mine; two hearts

beating in tandem.

I close my eyes and vow to remember

this moment.

We are two boats, untethered and drifting

comfortably downstream.

Gently bumping sterns as we make our way

to the sea.
