River, River

River, river come to me

Wash away all sadness I see

The child's face from yesterday

Tear stained and no one knows why

Not even her

The stranger who is known but not

Who is recognized, but barely

Is it a choice?

The man of bad dreams

Who takes away Mom and Dad

Along with everyone else I care about

The family lost, whether blood or friends

Forever gone, yet never forgotten

All memories we block out

Realities we pretend are fake

Worlds we pretend exist or don't

River, river, come to me

Wash away my sad, sad past

Build for me a new, sunny day

With a bright future to look forward to
