River Runs Red

There is a River

A River that is Red

And it Runs inside my head

Taking me away

Down to a place

A darkness I never want to go

But yet, everyday

I go for a swim

And let the River sweep me away

I go down

Down, down, down

Never able to escape

But I know the place

The place I am going

The River Runs Red

Red from all the blood I have shed

Shed for my pain

Shed for the hurt

Shed because the thoughts in my head

Make me fall to my knees

So when I reach the end

The River carries me into a cave

And I sit on the ground

And my hands begin to shake

I look into the Darkness

And I know what I will see

And I don't want to see it

But yet I return everyday

And so I get up

And I turn to leave

But then the Darkness

Wraps around me

Pulling me in

And though I fight

And I try

I never win

 And so when the Darkness

Has me turned around

And kneeling on the ground

I am forced to look at the Darkness

And a face begins to form

And I cannot look away

And no matter how hard it is

For me to see

I look into the Darkness

And I see me

Though it's not me

It's the me I used to be

Before the River

That Runs Red

Formed in my head

Before I came to terms with my pain

Before I figured out

That being slammed into the wall

Is not okay

I see a happier

Prettier

Different

Joyful

Me

I see a me

Who is no longer me

It is the me

That I used to be

Before the River

That Runs Red

Controlled me

And consumed me

The River that Runs Red

Carries me through my head

My thoughts running wild

Never ceasing

Always scary

A whirlpool of emotion

I cannot stop

The River that Runs Red

I love to write, it helps me to release, and in a way I feel like I'm creating something small. Even if it doesn't matter, ya know?
