Rivers of Fire
Cold, lone nights of simmering ember
cascading thoughts grew from December
which grew, and twisted until it blossomed on her lips.
Rock slides of pain and trouble
they thought they could pull her from the rubble
but she kept on driving until she couldn’t hit the brakes.
Cliff sides and trees of reflection
buried dreams, she could not catch them
so she leaves it beneath the sand.
Mind in clutter, heart in confusion
she know that she could not use him
as an escape from the future anymore.
And now it has come down to the wire
her veins are pumping rivers of fire
but the words and actions don’t meet.
She knows that there is no stopping
from loving, living, hating, dying.
but she knows that she must keep trying
before the last beat of life consumes.
