On That Road

What an empty road I trod

With my knees caked in mud

Destination unknown while

My feet continue moving

But I have a fire in my heart

And fuel on my hands

As my lips speak to another soul

The fire delivers and I watch

As the soul walks away with my fuel

On its hands and with my warmth in their heart

I walk back on the empty road

In my groveled state

For I know now where I’m heading

With yet another flame in my heart
