That Road

Tell me

Is this

This broken space between us

Is it

Something I can fix

Are you lost

Gone forever

Did I push too much

Did you not realize

Did we miss each other

Even staring in each others eyes

Did we sleep

Through the winter

And did

You let go

I hold on

Because I feel it

Still burning

Under the skin

Where we can't get at

With our nails and mean words

Where it hurts

I feel it

For you

Burning to life

Keeping me warm

Sparking me awake

And I feel you

I let you go

I let the wound breathe

Because I love you

And never want you to leave

But if breathing

Another word

Hurts rather than heals

Then I would let you go

If I had nothing left

Nothing you wanted to hold

Then I could learn

To turn

And let this fire burn out

If that's all you want

If it's what you need

Then I would let you go

But if it's the unknown

You're running from

Then you're better off alone

Because I know

Where that sort of road

Can lead

And it seems to be

Leading right between

You and me
