The Road
There it is lying in front of me, waiting
Waiting for the day when I chose to walk.
Waiting for when I finally run.
It stands in front of me, long and narrow.
Treacherous points lie in the distant.
Waiting
I look in fear, afraid of what it holds
Trials, pain, anguish
They wait…for me
I look ahead and see only fog
I stand alone while my mind,
Waits
Looking behind me,
A product of my past
No good for anything.
Alcohol, sex, lust, degradation,
They look at me yelling hypocrisy,
It taunts me, waiting for me to break.
Turn around they say,
You can never make it,
You are a prisoner.
And I believe it
But, at my breaking point,
I am suddenly smacked in the back of the head.
“The best years are filled with pain and trouble”
Yes, I am a product, but I am not a prisoner!
I stand on this mountaintop afraid of what lies ahead.
It waits for me eager to take me places.
Scars await me
Struggles await me
Trouble awaits me
But I stand strong, get up, and run!
Moving forward!
Refusing to compromise!
Because greatness await me also,
Success awaits me also,
Love awaits me also.
And though I will fall on this road ahead of me,
Though I will be beaten, hurt, and struck down,
I will get up!
I can’t promise that I won’t crawl on this journey.
But, my past behind,
No shame or sadness,
I will move forward no matter what it costs.
I will not stay behind
Allowing fear to captivate me
I chose to run!
And one day, I will make it to where this road leads.
I don’t know where or when
But it will only be because I made this decision.
NEVER GIVE UP
