On the Road Again

A crossroads with options neglected

A pathway that when recollected

Was the focal point of where love soured

Gave way to the assumptions that devoured

A stronghold, an assurance, a commitment

That all would be clear without insistence

That we were not staggering or disintegrating.

Perhaps all that had staggered and disintegrated

Was faith that stigma would be negated

That tantalizing would not be rewarded

That infidelity would not be extorted

That home was with me and not the asphalt

That the pavement was destined by default

To lead her back to my embrace.

If only my faith were more concrete.

If only the concrete could redeem my faith.
