The Road for another Day

It was under that tree After a ballgame in May, When I mistakenly made a promise That motivated me to change. I gathered everything I owned, Put it all in one big pile, TV, shoes, mattress included, Then I grabbed my ball glove and left. My mother wanted me to be happy So that’s what I set out to do. I vowed to only return When I proved that I could do it. Although I did not think I would I went back to that yellow wood And took the other road To see if it would make a difference. It took three years, but I finally returned To that tree where I made a promise. A promise to pay back my debt And finally become a better man.
