The road I take

There is a road I take,

On my way to work.

Every workday, rain or shine,

With a longing that I cannot forsake.

The morning fog will soon clear,

As I wait for dawn to break.

Though the air is still brisk,

My time to depart is near.

As I drive the path on the forest floor,

Past the stand of tall pines,

Skirting the foggy, placid lake,

I glimpse the cottage and the red door.

Some days I wish I could stop there,

Right beside that little house.

Linger for a while, soak in the beauty,

Dwell in the tranquility, the calming peace I feel here.

Alas, there is much left to be done

And the rest of my day awaits,

I savor a moment of calm and peace

Before I press on, and that moment is gone.
